Supporting people with disabilities in Mid-Ulster
The Lobbying Activism & Research Group is a group of interested people mainly those with disabilities or people committed to ensuring that people with disabilities exercise their rights as equal citizens. For many years now LARG have been guest lecturers at QUB and SWC where they deliver teaching input to undergraduate Social work students.
"Getting ready for placement" Social work from a service user perspective. They have actively been part of research on Service user involvement working collaboratively with Dr Joe Duffy QUB on "Looking out from the middle" most recently which is now recommended reading material for the Social work degree.
LARG are also a go to organiisation for local and regional consultations and have responded to many consultations. The most recent being MUDC Consultation on opening hours in leisure centres and they are part of a UK wide study being conducted by DRILL on their experiences of social care.
LARG members also represent disability issues on the STEP Board, the local and regional PPI panels and on the Willowbank Board.
The group meets monthly on a Wednesday at Willowbank Carland Road at 11.00am.
